Pre-Procedure Advice
This section includes permanent brows, lips, areola tattooing, scalp micropigmentation and tattooing.
No treatment will be carried out on any client who is/could be pregnant or breastfeeding.
Please inform your technician of any medications or medical issues that you have and familiarise yourself with the following information provided here prior to giving your technician consent to perform any treatment: some will require a GP or specialist consent to go ahead.
Lip Blush is a blush of colour to the lips, restoring what has been lost and is created by using natural lip tones and is a soft look. Please do not expect the block or bold look that make up gives. Please note brown tones are not achievable in lip blush and I will not work outside of your natural lip skin to give the appearance of larger lips, this is what filler is for.
It is important to note that while permanent make-up offers you advantages, it will never completely replace cosmetic products. Permanent make-up sits within the skin, therefore it will never provide the same look and coverage that make-up does.
Those with oily skin will find that permanent make-up will heal lighter and fade sooner than someone with dry skin, therefore eyebrow make-up is going to still be a daily part of your life. Along with regular colour boosts to maintain them.
Hair growth pattern: if your natural brow hair growth isn't in the same shape as your new tattoo you will notice a difference between the permanent make-up and the actual hair, there is no way to get around this. Applying surface makeup will help to blend the two.
Permanent make-up is meant to be a natural enhancement of your own features, which can be made bolder and fuller with makeup on top! Having permanent make-up will give you the shape you need to follow to make applying make-up quicker and less stressful.
Allergic reactions - although allergic reactions are rare in permanent cosmetics and tattooing a sensitivity patch test should be performed 48hrs prior to your treatment/procedure taking place. There is no guarantee you will not have an allergy to the pigment with a negative patch test or that you’re not allergic to my other products or the aftercare you use, this is out of PMU by Kerry Bensons control and any treatment needing re-work due to damage/poor heal will be charged for accordingly. This is your responsibility to receive a patch test.
Some residual swelling and bruising is normal for all procedures and you must understand that a certain amount of discomfort is associated with this procedure.
I do not use numbing methods, you may however apply your own but the product must be declared to PMU by Kerry Benson. Allergic reactions, colour differences or blanching of the skin will not be my responsibility should anything arise from using such products prior to receiving a treatment.
The treated area may appear patchy, uneven, dry, itchy, tender, red & irritated while healing. This is 100% normal.
Microblading is not suitable for those with oily or combination skin and I hold no responsibility for those who choose to go ahead with the treatment knowing it will blur/fade prematurely or not hold at all. Top ups/colour boosts will be charged in full for those needing extra appointments.
Your healing symptoms will change each day and vary on the individual. The healing process is specific to each client so please be patient. Judgement of your new PMU should be avoided until you hit week 4/5.
PMU and tattoos can take several sessions to achieve your desired results, it’s important to know that PMU and tattoos are a multi treatment process and can vary from person to person. Colour on all PMU and tattooing will fade and soften anywhere from 10-50% or more in some cases once healed, the true colour of your new PMU or tattoo will show its true tone at around 4-6 weeks, this can be more on scaring or skin damage. I can not guarantee a perfect healed result for any treatment or an individuals retention. Once you leave the studio your new permanent make-up is your responsibility to care for.
Everyone is different - no two skin types are the same. Therefore each treatment and heal is bespoke to you. During the retouch appointment we will fine tune any area that has faded more than others so please be patient with your new PMU or tattoo.
It’s important to realise that you will need a colour boost every 1-2 years for permanent make-up (or earlier in some cases) in order to maintain a fresh, natural appearance.
Your lifestyle, age, skin type, and personal products you use at home will determing how you heal and how your PMU or tattoo will hold within the skin over time. Those with oily skin, thicker skin and larger pours will require more frequent colour boosts than those with dry skin.
Due to the build-up of scar tissue, colour boosts will not be performed any sooner than 3-6 months post treatment.
If your brows or lips have faded more than you would have liked after the 1st initial session has healed, it’s okay to pencil them in or wear lip tints on them until your scheduled touch up appointment or colour boost has been performed. Your results are 50% your artist and 50% YOU - no guarantees are promised with semi/permanent make-up nor should it be expected replace your make-up routine as explained above.
If you will be exposing your brows to sunlight or sunbeds post after care procedure, have oily skin, use anti-ageing creams, retina/retinol products, acidic cleansers, have exposure to natural elements on a regular basis, have regular chemical peels, or exercise frequently your cosmetics will fade permanently - this is out of the technicians control and you will need a colour boost earlier than others which is chargeable.
As we age, our skin changes. Permanent make up will heal differently and will eventually look more powdered, this is universal with all permanent make-up procedures and is unavoidable.
Remember, no two sides of the face or body are the same, this applies to your brows, lips and breasts too, I do not guarantee symmetrical finish to any treatment nor should you expect one.
Dark Skin types please note that your permanent make-up or tattoo will not appear as bold as lighter skin types. It will look more powdered.
Alcohol, some medications, caffeine or energy drinks must not be consumed the day of your procedure, this is to minimise any oozing/bleeding or swelling after the procedure.
Whilst on your menstrual cycle, you may become hyper-sensitive at the procedure site prior to your treatment.
Do not tan, use sunbeds or get sunburn on any areas you’re planning to have a treatment - tanning causes exfoliation, and in turn sheds pigment with it. You should have no direct sun contact 14 days before and 14 days after your treatment. You will also need to use a high factor & 5* sunscreen for maximum protection once your treatment has been completed to help avoid damage to your PMU, tattoo and skin. If you arrive to your appointment with sunburn or a sun tan, you will be asked to reschedule your appointment, and your deposit will be forfeited. Tanning can and will still occur with an SPF so large hats and a no direct sun contact is always best.
Do not take Aspirin, Fish Oil, Coumadin, Ibuprofen or Aspirin or Vitamin E.
Do not use the following on your face for more than 2/4 weeks prior - Vitamin E, Q10 creams, Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), BHA, Omega 3, Glycolic acid, any Retinol A or Retinols, Benzoyl peroxide, Salicylic acid, Lactic acid or any exfoliants. Tropics and The Body shop, although mostly organic do have these ingredient’s so please check your bottles.
Keep the area dry - no soaking in any water whatsoever while healing.
Do not sweat, heavily or regularly. Sweat contains salt which permanently removes pigment. It will also cause the pigment to blur/fade and colour changes will occur.
Avoid direct shower or bath water contact on the treated area while healing.
Nothing should be applied to the treated area: No Make-up, lotions or sun cream while the area is healing.
Avoid scrubbing the treated area (at least 1 month post treatment).
You may gently exfoliate your lips 2 days before your treatment, scabby or dry lips are not tattooable and the result will be poor.
You should avoid sleeping directly on your face and ensure your pillow cases are clean while the area is healing.
You can come to your to your appointment with your make-up on or alternatively bring a coloured pencil or lipstick of choice that you wear for your day look.
If you get your eyebrows waxed or tinted, please have this done 7 days prior to your scheduled procedure. It is recommended to wait at least 14 days to have them waxed & 30 days for tinting after the procedure.
Regular make-up can be worn immediately after your procedure, just not on the treated area until you're fully healed.
Your new PMU will appear bolder immediately after the procedure and continue as the surface oxidises and the surface sheds away. This is common in all Permanent Make-up and tattoo applications. It will begin to soften up and shrink back in size typically within 5-30 days.
Cover ups & colour boost of work not my own - may take an unknown number of treatments to achieve and the outcome and colour will vary, you must understand the risks and that the heal may vary to a first time treatment including the healed colour, tone and quality. I do not guarantee perfect or natural results should you chose to go ahead. With this in mind scar tissue in the brow area and cover-ups/colour corrections may require additional procedures and fees will apply. You must have an in person consultation with me prior to booking an appointment to assess the quality of the previous work and pigment left in the skin. Those who do not have a full removal may always have a patchy heal, you may be required to go larger for coving the previous work and darker. This is out of my control as the artist and can not be avoided. Please ensure you understand this before going ahead.
When choosing a colour it is recommended to go lighter until we see the healed results, we can always go darker at the touch up but we cannot go lighter, this is discussed at your appointment which you are required to approve before going ahead with any treatment this applies with both PMU and tattooing.
Colours will appear crisp and bold at first, but will soften up in appearance as the tissue heals. The area will shed taking some colour with it, this is normal, the area will begin to oxidise and darken over the 1st month.
It is common to have areas fade more so than others. This is part of the healing process and will be treated at the recommended touch up appointment.
Red heads, blonds & fair skin types will experience more swelling, redness and fading than darker skin types.
Clients with darker skin (Indian, African American, Filipino, etc.), Please know that the Hair Strokes WILL NOT appear as defined or as dark as lighter skin types due to the skin colour already being naturally darker.
Colour choices for PMU Brows, Faux freckles, Beauty spots, Lip treatments and Areola are solely your decision and I do not take responsibility for the healed result. However I will guide you if I believe you are going too dark or the choice will not suit your complexion or heal poorly.
If you’re planning on having a top up of Botox or filler it must be done 4-6 weeks before your PMU appointment. I recommend all first time Botox and filler users have their PMU done first.
Scalp tattooing - delay using any prescribed treatments in agreeance with your consultant 1-2 weeks before your treatment. Ensure you wash your hair the morning of your treatment but avoid anti dandruff shampoos. You will need to keep your Scalp dry for upto 4 days. You may moisturise your scalp daily from day 4 to avoid flaking. Avoid over sweating and gym exercise while healing. Do not colour your hair for upto 4 weeks, you may shave your head from week 3 but ensure you're clear of any flaking and are gentle with the blades. This treatment requires multiple sessions to reach a desired result. Please take this into consideration when booking.
All prices quoted and agreed are for one session, top ups are chargable should you require one, any further sessions are also chargeable.
